Ryan Hazen was born and raised in eastern Kansas and spent three years in architecture school after high school. While working as a summer youth director in a church, his plans changed and he responded to a call to ministry. He graduated from Texas Christian University and Christian Theological Seminary. While in seminary, he did an internship at Geist Christian Church and was ordained at the church in 1990. After ordination, he served the Disciples of Christ congregation in Columbus, Indiana, and was a consultant for Church Extension, the building planning and financing arm of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He returned to Geist Christian Church in 2005 and became the lead pastor in early 2021. He is married to Ruth Weaver, and they have two grown boys.
